During my internship, I started to learn cosmetology and commenced my practise in cosmetology along with preparing customised products. In the year 2022, I started reaching out handmade products, both online and offline, to students all over India. At present, I am working as the Medical Officer at Government District Hospital, Udupi and also as a specialist in the field of Ayurveda cosmetology in different Ayurveda clinics and hospitals.

My inspiration

I was a topper in Sanskrit since my school days. Therefore, I initially thought Ayurveda shlokas would be very easy to understand, but that was not the case. In my young age, I used to see my grandfather as well as my friend’s grandfather practising treatment with herbs. My parents used to enquire from them regarding various home remedies. All this made me more interested in the science of Ayurveda. During my mother’s pregnancy, the Ayurvedic Pandit used to give her lehya and other herbal treatments. This again attracted me towards Ayurveda.

After BAMS, as I was very interested to gain a deeper learning into tis science, I chose Roganidana as the subject for my MD. I then pursued a few speciality degrees in cosmetology, aroma, diet nutrition, health education, brand development, cosmetic formulations, panchakarma, etc.

My best memory
LG Raiker (my grandfather) always used to tell me that once I complete your BAMS, he would teach me secrets of folklore practice. He did teach me a few folklore medicines that he used during practice.
My dream
I feel proud to get inspired myself and also inspire others to learn and adopt Ayurveda.
My goal
To develop Ayurveda in the field of personal care – Ayurveda beauty.
Message to Youngsters
I would like to tell youngsters to have patience in studying medicine. Not everyone can learn the whole of Ayurveda, but you can choose a few specialities and master it. Rather than thinking of money making, start looking at the case, analysing the case, observe the doctor, how she/he is dealing with patients of different categories, the mentality, health issues, etc. with lot of patience.

The Journey

Triveni Nursing Home (TNH) an ISO, NABH certified Ayurveda Hospital, was founded in 1978 in Thiruvananthapuram as an outpatient clinic by Vaidya Chandrasekharan Nair, a renowned Ayurveda teacher-cum-practitioner, a specialist in MarmaAsthi Chikitsa (Ayurvedic Orthopaedics). Now, TNH (Research Hospital) situated at Vanchiyoor, Thiruvananthapuram, has emerged as a vibrant, full-fledged multi-speciality, 62-bed hospital and research centre with extension hospitals in Kochi and Chennai, and a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit in Kochuveli, Trivandrum. TNH is a widely accepted referral Ayurvedic research hospital providing treatments for all musculo-skeletal diseases with a special focus on MarmaAsthi Chikitsa. TNH is attracting a large number of patients suffering from orthopaedic problems and other diseases.

Vaidya C Suresh Kumar, holds an MD in Ayurveda and a Ph.D. degree. He has treated more than a lakh patients and cured them of their bodily problems with the right diagnosis and treatment methods though MarmaChikitsa. He is the Managing Partner and CMO of TNH. It is a decade now and his efforts have been recognized by various social communities where he was honoured with many awards of National and International repute. He has presented more than 140 papers at various conferences and other forums. These includes presentations in international conferences in Amsterdam, Dubai, Germany, Singapore, Malaysia and Sharjah on the merits of Ayurvedic Orthopaedic treatment with the application of MarmaChikitsa for low back pain, osteoporosis, etc. Recognizing the outstanding achievements, Rashtriya Ayurveda Vidhyapeeth, Delhi, the National Academy of Ayurveda, an autonomous organization under Ministry of AYUSH, has approved Dr. Suresh Kumar, as a Guru and competent to train students for internship under the Guru Sishya Parampara, since the last 17 years. This institute is an approved centre for training Graduates, Postgraduates & Ph.D. students from various Universities.

TNH integrates the relevant facilities and knowledge available in conventional modern medicine, such as X-Ray and clinical laboratory findings with Ayurvedic orthopaedic treatment. MarmaAsthi Chikitsa is an ancient treatment modality which needs revitalization and popularization in view of its intriguing potentiality. Among other things, TNH provides an economically effective and less invasive procedure for orthopaedic problems, which include trauma, musculoskeletal disorders, neurological disorders, post-surgical rehabilitation and sports injuries.

Growth of TNH and Research Hospital

Triveni Nursing Home needs no introduction among the Ayurvedic fraternity. It has created a benchmark in the hospital industry. It started functioning as an out-patient clinic under Dr. K A Chandrasekharan Nair, at Kaithamukku, Thiruvananthapuram in 1978. Dr. Nair, an exceptional physician retired as a Senior Lecturer and Honorary Consultant, and gained fame as a specialist in Marma, Department of Salya Chikitsa, Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram. He served there for more than 28 years. It was his dream to have a Multi-Specialty Ayurvedic Hospital in Kerala, known for its adoption of professional standards, both nationally and internationally.
In order to provide better treatment under the control of qualified staff, an inpatient unit was started at Kaithamukku in 1978. This was initially a 20-bed hospital, providing all kinds of treatment on Ayurvedic lines. A staff of three doctors and other qualified personnel assisted him then. Each year around 25000 needy patients attend our outpatient department out of which more than 3000 people get admitted for treatment. Its journey from the humblest beginning to its prestigious level is due to the hard work and enthusiasm of the staff and management.

My inspiration
I got inspired from my father who was a well-known and dedicated Ayurvedic physician. The immense relief I used to see daily on the faces of numerous persons treated by my father inspired me to choose this branch of medicine. Along with that, even from my younger days, I was able to realize the potential of this Indian system of Medicine.
My best memory

I recently attended the marriage of a girl whom I was treating ever since she was born. She was born to a cerebral palsy father. My father was treating him since 1975. He was not walking then, later he got better, got a Govt. job, married & now I attended his daughter’s marriage. He took a lot of effort to convince the patient.

A 7 month old pregnant lady was brought to me. She was desperately requesting to abort the baby. On enquiry I found that as per the MRI the brain was not developed. It took a lot of effort for me to convince the parents to keep the baby. She was born, and a repeated MRI also showed congenital anomaly. During that time also the parents were reluctant to accept the baby. A lot of effort was taken to convince them and now this smart healthy girl is attending her kindergarten. Recently, I attended her 6th birthday.

Vision
Being one of the best hospitals in the state, we want to make it a State of the Art Hospital in India.
The Journey

My father, who belonged to a very remote and small village of western UP, struggled and made his path to glory by starting his journey as an Ayurveda doctor. He travelled from Jhansi to Lucknow, Varanasi to Guwahati and to extreme south in Tirupati. He was known for the treatment of jaundice, which was an epidemic in this area. He introduced Ayurveda in a Homeopathy dominant area, along with introduction of Yoga into many lives. It all started with one room that got transformed into a magnificent institute, standing tall as one of the best institutes in South India.

I was just seeing all this with my eyes, not expecting that I would be part of such a noble goal in the future. I joined my father’s institute in 1992 and it was not an easy thing to do. There was always a comparison with this stalwart who started every speech with a Geeta shloka and ended with a shloka from the Vedic scriptures. His knowledge of the current scenario – global research to global politics was amazing. His high standards of English and hardworking nature set a very high benchmark for me.

I came from an English medium school and joined an institute with Telugu medium. I struggled to understand and read Telugu books. I first learned Telugu alphabets with the help of my Sanskrit teacher and friend Dr. Katyayini and others. I used to listen to the class lectures in Telugu, read the subject in Hindi and write my examination in English. It was a spontaneous translation during my exams.

I was a thorn in the eyes of many, as I was the Principal’s daughter. There was a mix of hate and love situation in the college, among students and teachers. I struggled getting good grades, as all personal grudge on the principal was reflected on me during the Viva voce. I finally finished my BAMS. Later, I went on to pass my second language test in Telugu conducted by APPSC. I am now very good at it.

From my third year onwards (during vacations), a few of us started attending PG coaching with seniors. This helped me to crack the BHU entrance.

The BHU was a different experience. It moulded me as a more confident and strong person. The teachers of BHU shaped us in every angle from teaching to research. This certificate and the three years here changed my life.

After the completion of MD in 2001, I joined as an Ayurvedic expert in the Traditional Knowledge Digital Library (TKDL), New Delhi. This changed my whole perspective of Ayurveda. It was very tough to work as it was the beginning of a new era of blending IT into Ayurveda. Here I came across many books of Ayurveda. I was also refining my knowledge and skills on computers to help me in my job at National Institute of Science Communication (NISCOM).

Later in March 2002, I joined as Ph.D. scholar along with senior residency. This was unknowingly altering me as a teacher from a student. My research was on a very new topic and it took away all my energy. Though I was married and in a family way, I went across all the departments of BHU for collecting information on my topic. Even at Delhi, I went around with my 2 ½ months baby, gathering information for my research. It was again a new and great experience as a researcher.

Later in 2005, I had a break of 5 months. I got a call letter from Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Rheumatology Dept. for the post of a senior project expert and another letter for the post of a scientific officer, AYUSH, in APSLDTL, Hyderabad. I took the latter. It was a new dimension that added to my experience. Drug testing was very new at that time. It was a great challenge. Learning through experience, I gained a lot of knowledge in this field.

Then came the special day, when I gave an interview and got appointed as a lecturer in the institute once established by my father; earlier as a student and now as a faculty. It has been a wonderful experience, but with lot of challenges. Every challenge was only sharpening me and defining into me into a better teacher.

The journey goes on. Now as a professor, a guide for MD and Ph.D. and as a superintendent of the hospital, I am moving in a direction to work for the betterment of Ayurveda and to provide the best treatment to patients.

My best memory
I have been through every stage all alone without any godfather. When few teachers wrote me off, my father called and told me, “the marks what you get in UG does not matter. If you want to prove these people wrong, get a PG seat in BHU. It will be a slap on the face of all the people who gave you less marks.” My father was always a guiding factor, as I always dreamt of all the degrees he had, behind my name too.
My dream
I had lot of love for Ayurveda. From the start of my career, my father and my guide Prof. V K Joshi, always said “there is a lot of future for Ayurveda.” I see this happening today and I see a brilliant future for Ayurveda.

My goal
Ayurveda, the traditional system of medicine, should be supported and taken along with modern medicine, in the Allopathy colleges, universities and in the IITs and top National hospitals, for research. It should become the main system of healing in India and in the world.

My great grandfather was a saint. He did not have any degree. He used to serve the cows and used to give medicine to everyone in the whole village. At that time, he had received a letter from the Prime Minister’s Office and received the title of Vaidya from the government. I believe that Ayurveda should be taught like Ayurveda. I started teaching Samhita to Ayurvedic students from 2010 and today I am a teacher myself. The challenge came, I had to leave the work of goldsmith. There was a problem of money but I wanted to empower Ayurveda, this is my goal.

Inchara Ayur Kuteera, Bengaluru
Vision
Inchara Ayur Kuteera aims to encourage the use of classical Ayurveda and promote it among the public. We also aim to help budding Ayurvedic doctors to develop their skills and knowledge in practice.
The Journey

Soon after the completion of his degree, Dr. Vasukishayan began his clinical practice. Being service minded and with the pure intention of giving back his contribution towards the betterment of his native and his fellow villagers, he founded his first clinic, ‘Atharva Clinic’ in one of his native villages, Somenahalli, belonging to Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka. Operating a clinic in a remote village has its own challenges, financial and the crowd mentality. Service to his native was the main motto, however, he couldn’t make any basic living out of the clinical practice there, and there was no financial support from his parents as well. So, he had to shift his clinic to Bengaluru. While this clinical practice was going well, he couldn’t settle with this as he always wanted to serve people. He went back to another native village Gudibande, belonging to Chikkaballapura district of Karnataka, to give a second chance. However, the result turned out to be the same. On a positive side, he fulfilled his wish by serving 5 years at his native.

At the end of 1986, he came back to Bengaluru and founded a full-fledged clinic ‘Malavi Clinic’, named after his daughter. Malavi Clinic operated for about 28 years and got recognized by the people of South Bengaluru area as the go-to place for all heath issues.

Graduated from an Allopathic and Ayurvedic combined degree, without getting any proper guidance about Ayurvedic clinical practice, Dr. Vasukishayan had practiced Allopathy for about 15 years, post which he stopped Allopathy completely and started pure classical Ayurvedic practice. He found out his own wonderful combinations to treat various chronic diseases. During this journey, he mastered administration of rasoushadhas for chronic cardiac, renal, respiratory, and various other disorders. He has successfully cured and controlled various tough fighting diseases.

In 2008, along with Malavi Clinic, he in parallel founded ‘Inchara Ayur Kuteera’, which is currently handled by Dr. Malavi Shayan. Following his footsteps along with his guidance and support, today, Inchara Ayur Kuteera, is a complete solution for classical Ayurvedic treatment with Panchakarma facility.

The Lineage

Dr. Vasukishayan G V

Dr. Malavi Shayan

My inspiration
Growing up in an Ayurvedic family, I had come to know that Ayurveda is not just a medical science, but it is a way of life. Ayurveda with its various branches like yoga, pranayama, dhayana, aahara and much more, helps to lead a healthy and calm life. Hence, Ayurveda means “knowledge of life with well documented medicinal system”. I feel proud to have chosen not just a medical science, but a lifestyle.
My best memory
The major turn-around of the institution is the transition of Dr. Vasukishayan’s clinical practice from Allopathy to Classical Ayurveda. Dr. Vasukishayan’s son, Anuj Shayan, was suffering repeatedly from fever, respiratory problem, digestion issues, at the age of 7 months and he had become very weak without any food intake. He was treated with all the best possible Allopathic treatment by Dr. Vasukishayan, other Allopathic general practitioners and pediatricians, and all that could not be of any help. Every person had left the result to God’s grace. Finally, Dr. Vasukishayan had to use his Ayurvedic graduate education to re-visit the Ayurvedic granthas (texts) and treated his son successfully & saved his life. After this instance, Dr. Vasukishayan studied numerous granthas, came up with his own wonderful medicine combinations, brought up various administration methods and became an eminent rasa-vaidya. This immense knowledge is carried and enhanced forward by his daughter, Dr. Malavi Shayan.
My dream
To enhance the awareness of Classical Ayurveda, not just as a way of treatment for health issues and patients. Instead, it should be promoted for the fit and fine younger generation to enhance their physical & mental health, to prevent health issues, and as a whole to lead a healthy and happy life.
My Gurus
My father, Late. Dr. Vasukishayan, an eminent classical Ayurvedic herbs-mineral treatment expert, who had rich, original knowledge of classical Ayurveda & was well versed with its deep-rooted philosophy that helped many people in developing a perfect healthy state. He has served society by curing various asadhya rogas, by administrating rasoushadhis.
My goal
To enhance the awareness of Classical Ayurveda, not just as a way of treatment for health issues and patients. Instead, it should be promoted for the fit and fine younger generation to enhance their physical & mental health, to prevent health issues, and as a whole to lead a healthy and happy life.

In the association of Brahmin and Vidvana, which originated in this Brahmavarta country, all human beings living on earth should learn about their conduct and duties.

We started as a small clinic in the early 1985’s founded by Vaidya Mahesh A Akhani. Now it has become a full-fledged Ayurvedic Panchakarma Hospital.

We have been publishing regularly an Ayurveda column in Rakheval Daily, and occasionally in Sandesh, Gujarat Samachar and Sadhana Saptahik from March 1985 till date. In addition, for the last three decades, Amrut Ayurveda Kendra has been conducting various programs of Ayurveda in schools, colleges, panchayat houses, and in front of the rural masses from time to time to create awareness about Ayurveda, identifying herbs and diagnosing diseases through Ayurveda.

In particular, the work of teaching Ayurveda to the students of B. R. College, Lokaniketan for four consecutive years, without any expectation of any kind, is done by Vaidya Mahesh Akhani.

With this principle, Amrut Ayurveda Kendra was started with the tradition of definite diagnosis and best results through multi-quality herbs. This could happen because of two-three years of study under the guidance of Guruvaryas like Vaidya C P Shukla, Vaidya Prajaram Raval and Vaidya Shobhan Vasani.

Since April 1985, Amrut Ayurveda Kendra has started all the procedures of Panchakarma, such as Vamana Karma, Virechan Karma, Anuvasan Basti, Niruh Basti, Raktamokshan, Nasya, Tarpan, Shirodhara, Shastishali Pind Sweed, etc. and today it has become a full-fledged Panchakarma hospital.

The Journey

I passed my BAMS in 1979 and started Ayurvedic practice at my home in Mumbai. I had completed Sanskrit Parangat (M.A.) along with my Ayurvedic studies. Subsequently, I completed M.Phil. in Sanskrit in the year 1982. In 1985, I completed my M.D. in Samhita and in 1991 I got my Ph.D. degree.

I started practicing in a polyclinic in 1983. In 1985, I received my first case of a very advanced cancer. The expected survival was only 15 days. By the grace of God, and guidance from my Guru Vaidya Madhav Kolhatkar, I could treat the patient successfully and the patient survived for 33 long years thereafter. This was a turning point in my practice, and since then I am getting cancer patients from all over India and abroad.

In 1986, I opened my own clinic in Sadashiv Peth. I repaid the loans in three and half years, and purchased a plot with a new loan.

I was very fortunate to work on a gigantic research project named “Ayurvediya Triskandhakosha” from 1989 till 2008 (19 years). The idea was conceived by my Guru Vaidya Madhav Kolhatkar. After his sad accidental demise on 6th November 1992, the entire responsibility feel onto my shoulders. With great struggle, I completed the project resulting in 3 volumes of Hetukosha (3200 pages), 3 volumes of Lakshanakosha (3200 pages), 7 volumes of Aushadhakosha (8000 pages), and Ayurvedic Diagnostic and Treatment Software based on Bruhat-trayi. I was felicitated for this accomplishment by the then Vice-President of India, Honourable Bhiaronsingh Shekhawat and the then Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Sri Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Now I am working on Pratipadika Kosha since 2011, which will encompass all possible Ayurvedic texts and will also result in Ayurvedic Diagnostic and Treatment Software along with Dravya-guna-karma kosha.

Currently, I am practicing Ayurveda especially in life-threatening diseases like cancer, heart diseases, etc. I have published many books in Marathi and English on cancer, lifestyle, and investing in health.

My inspiration
The main reason behind all health issues is our lifestyle and the modern medical system has limitations to control the lifestyle diseases. Considering the scope in Ayurveda for betterment of the same always inspired me.
My best memory

Meeting the former Prime Minister, Hon. Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, for submitting the Memorandum for the formation of the Herbal Medicinal Plant Board.
To ensure an uninterrupted supply of herbal medicines to Ayurveda medicine manufacturing units, we initiated the idea of herbal medicinal plantations with the help of marginal farmers. We presented a paper at NABARD for the need for formation of a Medicinal Plant Board. This proposal was submitted to the (Late) Prime Minister, Hon. Sri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the concerned Ministry. The Board was formed on recommended suggestions and the same is now functioning effectively. We were also a role model in bringing up good manufacturing practices successfully as per WHO guidelines.

My dream
Ayurveda has a very positive future especially after the COVID pandemic experience.
