The Journey
The term Ashtavaidyan denotes profound knowledge in all the eight branches (Ashtangas) of Ayurveda. In recognition of the service to society, in 1924, Ashtavaidyan Narayanan Mooss was awarded the much-coveted title Vaidyaratnam by Lord Reading, the then Viceroy of India.
Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala was founded in 1941 by Ashtavaidyan E T Neelakandhan Mooss, son of Ashtavaidyan Narayanan Mooss. Vaidyaratnam believes in the “Ayurveda First” philosophy and has contributed significantly to the growth of Ayurveda for generations. The nation conferred Padma Shri in 1992 to Ashtavaidyan E T Neelakandhan Mooss and, in 2010, Padma Bhushan to Ashtavaidyan E T Narayanan Mooss in recognition of their contribution to the field of Ayurveda.
Since its inception in 1941, the activities of Vaidyaratnam have spread over into various facets including formulating and manufacturing of Ayurvedic medicines, providing health care services, inspiring academics as well as conducting research.
We at Vaidyaratnam Oushadhasala, manufacture more than 550 Ayurvedic formulations ranging from classical products to patent products. We have 3 manufacturing facilities and a Pan-India distribution network with more than 1500 franchise dealerships and Ayurvedic outlets that bring Ayurveda closer to the common man. We export our medicines to GCC countries, South East Asian Countries, Europe, Australia and thus, our products reach many parts of the world.
In addition, we have been running an Ayurveda College since 1976 and also provide authentic Ayurvedic treatments in our 100-bedded NABH accredited Ayurvedic Nursing Home. Besides, we also have an Ayurvedic Hospital specifically for the treatment of Rheumatoid disorders, which was upgraded to the status of “Centre of Excellence” by the Government of India in 2013. Our Ayurvedic Museum, the first of its kind in India, was dedicated to the nation in 2013 by the then Hon’ble President of India, Dr A P J Abdul Kalam.
With a mission to ensure Ayurveda for all by incorporating the research and development outcomes, with special emphasis on Ashtavaidya tradition, we have established Vaidyaratnam Ayurveda Research Institute (VARI). Key functional areas of VARI are process validation, new product design and development, product modification, standardization of raw materials, medicinal plants management, insilico analysis, metabolomics, analytical method development and capacity building programme in Ayurveda pharmaceutical science.
In order to widen our research activities into the emerging areas, we are planning to concentrate on technology intervention to develop devices that assure rationalized quality in the manufacturing process as well as to come up with state of art technology in patient care. With these objectives in mind, we have signed an MOU with M/s. Indian Institute of Information Technology, Kottayam on 28 July 2022.
Vaidyaratnam launched various social responsibility programmes such as ‘Angana’, ‘Seed’, ‘Health Cards’, ‘Vijnana Ratna’, etc. The Women Empowerment Project ‘Angana’ was inaugurated by Smt. Veena George, Honourable Minister for Health and Family Welfare on 11 November 2021 and is carrying out functions across the state. It is an initiative to bring in the goodness of Ayurveda for ensuring emotional and healthcare support to adolescent girls.
We have established ourselves as one of the leading institutions/brands in the field of Ayurveda in India.
